Waterfront Toronto engaged us to lead the sustainability vision and master planning strategy for the McCleary District Precinct and to establish a framework capable of guiding future precincts across the Waterfront portfolio. The mandate was to define what regenerative urbanism looked like at precinct scale and to create the standards by which future developments would be measured within the following themes:

Resilience & Climate Adaptation,

Landscape & Biophilic Design,

Low Carbon Transportation,

Zero Carbon Buildings,

Clean Energy Sources,

Circular Economy & Solid Waste.

We led the development of the sustainability vision and strategic framework, integrating ecological thinking, Indigenous perspectives, and technical systems into a coherent set of principles and benchmarks. This included establishing an ecological performance standard tied to what the site's natural systems could provide - a measurable foundation for decision-making. Indigenous engagement with Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee knowledge holders identified ecological relationships and site conditions not visible in technical data, directly shaping the framework. The plan was structured to transfer across all future Waterfront Toronto precincts, so the work done here directly shapes the standards applied to every subsequent development.
